Na Laoch Dall Archery Club - Waterford City
Na Laoch Dall Archery Club based in Waterford. We are members of the Irish Field Archery Federation (IFAF) which is affiliated to the International Field Archery Association (IFAA). The Moto of the IFAA is the "Family of Archers", which in our case is very apt as 50% of our members are young adults and children.
The Club was founded by Thomas Colclough and Martin Murphy in 2010. The name Na Laoch Dall means The Blind Warriors as they were both shooting Bowhunter style i.e. bows without sights = archers without sight = blind warriors = Na Laoch Dall.
We negotiated a lease from Coilte for the use of a forest close to Waterford Airport, which is where we held our first beginners course. With homemade targets, home made quivers and tabs. This is how most clubs begin; no money, no equipment, and a passion for Archery and a dream of infecting others with that passion.
In 2012 whilst participating in a family sports day held by the Waterford Sports Partnership I met with an old Archery friend André Passberger who offered us the use of a warehouse he owned. This was a monumental boost for the club. The help and support of the Passberger Family is greatly appreciated. The next few years the Club grew steadily with great success both nationally and internationally, with European Championship Medals in Field and Bow Hunter Championship.
